by Magwitch ingrowing up a jw, we always had family from out of town visit or we would go visit family.
it was fun to get together with my other jw cousins over christmas.
(however, it was hell going back to school in january as the only girl without a new sweater).. as a married jw though it was a different story.

We went out in the field service as kids and treated it as a normal day. When I got married I often spent the day working in the garden or on the house. Usually went to the hall if it was a meeting day not always. I kind of loathe the holiday period now.

Jehovahs Witnesses taught that Armageddon would occur in 1914,1915,1918,1921,1925,1932,1941 and 1975. Who is the father
by Little Imp ini saw a very long thread on answerbag answering the above question in which there are several jws responding and denyng vehemently what is said in the question.
in some places being quite rude to people.
the dialogue highlighted yellow is me, the text highlighted blue is someone who is agreeing that the jws did preach this.

My older brother and my brother in-law are about the same age. They have only ever met once briefly at about the age of 30. They went to school 6000 miles or so apart. Unyet both left school as soon as the legal requirement for schooling had been met and entered the pioneering. The one factor in their decision was the teachings of JW as both were raised as witnesses.
In 1996 when I had a discussion with some Elders about my views of the "truth" one of the points discussed was education and the detrimental effect on many by the teachings of 1975 and the "generation" How this made many make decisions they would not normally have made. The view expressed by the Elders was that it had nothing to do with the organization and was only every a personal decision made with the influence of ones parents.
Being honest about the situation would have been much better I think, and for me the lack of honesty is the worst thing.

Generation Teaching - Everyone is speechless?
by Red Piller inmaybe the effect of this change is bigger than realized?
in 1995, it was discussed (positively) by everybody, during the week we studied the wt.
one elder stepped down and was looked down upon.

Djeggnog,
This statement of yours is utter rubbish
"It may be so much easier to blame those Jehovah's Witnesses at the WTS, who dutifully published the literature that contained valid and sobering advice for those that failed to read it, for the decisions that we alone were responsible for making than ourselves, but if blaming others helps one to appreciate their need to make adjustments so that they might serve Christians interests more fully, or if leaving the ranks of Jehovah's Witnesses is thought to be a possible solution (I don't believe it is, but whatever!), "
In the congregations I was a part of and many brothers and sisters I know and have known over the years viewed their dedication to Jehovah and meaning that if it was possible they would be full time servants of Jehovah. Seeking the kingdom interests first, not pursuing their own. Not pursuing a career by higher education. Some did these were considered spiritually weak. The teaching on "the generation" has played a major part in the decisions of many which has brought hardship to them and their families. Most elders I have spoken to in recent years have an attitude like yours. These are not men that show love to the flock by the attitudes they display. Some are full of their own importance with the small amount of power they percieve themselves to have.
As the extracts from the emails show real way higher education is viewed from the publisher level in the congregations. Yes some do go on to do more, many don't. The local congregations where I live have many unskilled brothers and none with degrees.
This new understanding is no doubt as useless as the previous ones. People I have spoken with over the summer have been reluctant to talk about it. Maybe on some level the general publisher is coming to realise the false hopes the WTS have raised.

Djeggnog,
I have to admit I haven't read all of your post. I copied it and was going to print it out but it said it was 40 pages. On my meager wages I thought, better not.
Regarding the email. Just thought I'd share with you another comment.
"I regret that the WTS promotes this sister's narrow-minded, judgmental attitude toward higher education, something that the Bible certainly does not condemn."
This was from the person who IS a JW and has been for many many years and sent me the email about the earthquake. I have found many who feel like this. Admittedly not many elders. Maybe they are abit detached from the flock they are sheparding.

BAPTIZED Into a "Lawless" Publishing Co.
by clarity insunday morning food for thought.. ...into the temple of god "entry into the holy place" and that it is accomplished through baptism "bodies bathed in clean water" which also includes a public declaration "the public declaration of our hope".
heb 10:19-23. .
now if the association with baptism and entry into the temple is understood a further examination of baptism should help the reader comprehend some simple baptism criteria which is mentioned in the following by the apostle matthew:.

Were you afraid of Armageddon?
by cyberjesus ini was dfd in 1995 however i still believed it was the truth until 2009. and until then i was fearful of armageddon's day.. i remember every time i'd see a dark sky with thunders and lighting i would question if that was it.
the news of any major disaster, hurricanes earthquakes would ignite fear inside me and i would think that could be the beginning of the end.. when i was around 8 i remember going to visit my grandma and she was watching the news.
a major conflict in the middle east had ended and some president said that the world was not in peace.

No. I was hoping it would come before the end of the school holidays.

When God breaks his own laws
by Nickolas inif one assumes that god made the universe it follows that he made it according to a very complex set of physical laws that determine how things work.
the quest to identify and understand those physical laws is at the very forefront of science and great strides have been made over the past few centuries, in particular during the last century.
we have known for only a few centuries that the earth rotates on its axis and orbits around the sun along with a number of other planets, more recently that the solar system is located in a radial arm of a spiral galaxy swirling around some enormous black hole.

Have you ever been really reeally scared in a dream. But it's not real.
Have you ever been in a dream and thought it was real and imagined things. In a dream. Have you met people and talked not knowing what they would say? They are just dreams.
I think it was Paul made some comment about this not being the real life.
You have an imagination given by God what do you think he has.
Prove that i'm not a figment of God's imagination.
